미국의 정체성 덕분에 존속한 멕시코
In 1848, the United States won a series of battles against Mexico and captured the Mexican capital, Mexico City.
There was a debate within the United States about annexing Mexico, but it was rejected because…
1) Mexico is “not a white country,” and it would undermine America’s identity as a white country.
2) Annexing other countries to create an empire would create an overly large central government that would oppress the states.
In the end, Mexico was given a generous deal of only 1/3 of its territory, including California and Texas, and was able to maintain its existence.
